Biggest Lesson Learned from Superbowl Sunday.. Chile, it wasn’t about football!

When it comes to football, as the world renowned lyricist Trick Daddy stated, “I don’t know nan! Nope, nope.”

All I know is that Super Bowl Sunday means pizza, wings, and great dips intertwined with the best commercials of the year. Honestly, I look forward to the commercials and piggin’ out chile. Give me my little dranky drank and conversation with my other girls partaking in the fake celebration of football. I don’t know much about the lead up to this Superbowl Sunday besides Deflate Gate and the possible wrongful use of drones to film other team’s practices. Shady McGrady business if you ask me. So, from there on, I was fake rooting for the Falcons.

Did I learn how many yards are needed for a 1st Down? No.

Did I learn the difference between the different flag colors? No.

Did I learn anything football related? Absolutely not!

Yet, I did learn a very important lesson: It’s not over, until you decide it’s over!

The faces of the Patriot fans accompanied by their social media posts drastically changed from the overzealous cheers of confidence to praying with the faith of a mustard seed. Child, rosaries came out and hearts began to beat rapidly hoping for mercy. It was over. I mean, it had to be right? It was the 2nd quarter with the Patriots not scoring, like Trina this time, not nan points.

But, wait how in the matter of a fill of guacamole and lime chips, a circle around the party being a Chatty Patty and a loud yell from the living room did the game become tied? As Braxton P. Hartnabrig would say, “What the heezy?”

Image result for braxton jamie foxx

How did it happen you say? Because the Patriots were resilient, they were determined and committed to achieving their goals. They didn’t decide it was over.

It’s not over until you decide it’s over!

They didn’t let the fear of potential defeat diminish the glory of a potential win. Let me say that again.

They didn’t let the fear of potential defeat diminish the glory of a potential win.

Look at you neighbor and say neighborrrrrrr, “Don’t let the fear of potential defeat diminish the glory of a potential  win.”

Are you doing that in your life?

Do you push through despite all of the things that can go wrong? Or do you quit to prevent from failing?

Do you set goals for yourself with the mindset of accomplishing them by any means? Or do you allow yourself to be sidetracked by all the obstacles life throws your way?

Rather it’s starting your own business, getting that promotion at work, losing those extra pounds from last years resolution or embarking on your journey to financial freedom (plus that extra 5 you gained this year. Child, we all been there), are you going to do it? Are you going to commit to yourself? Because at the end of the day, you have to do it (Whatever it is) for YOU!

Or let me guess, you don’t have time, you work full-time and when you get home you don’t have time to work on your dreams? Oh, your kids are in involved in after school activities and sports so you don’t have time to go to the gym? Ohhhhhh you don’t know what you want to do in your career so you’ll just stay at this job because it’s comfortable? Excuses on top of excuses. Anything worth having, is worth fighting for. Are you going to fight for it?

You have permission to mess up the first quarter of your life, quarter and some change, of your life.

You have permission to make mistakes.

You have permissions to recognize that you aren’t performing at the best of your abilities.

You don’t have to settle for less.

You don’t have to be comfortable with medicoritcy.

This uncofmortable phase of unhappiness you’re feeling, you can end it.

This does NOT have to be your destiny. It’s not over until you decide it’s over!

Most importantly, you have permission to rectify what’s wrong. Growth is the necessity of evolution. You can’t evolve in your spirit, your being and passions if you don’t grow!

No one can change your life but you. Are you going to do it?

If you don’t, who will?

I’ll wait …..

Rib eye steak, three cheese macaroni and fresh steamed green beans

16113249_10101857424204287_6236264399738159845_oFresh is where it’s at. Y’all, listen, you don’t know what you’re missing until you eat fresh vegetables. We grew up on fresh vegetables but in college I discovered canned vegetables and frozen broccoli. Look, it was kind of hard out here for a pimppp, when you eating tilapia but really want shrimpppp! I had to make it happen, let’s face it frozen and canned vegetables are just cheaper and quicker but not better for you..

Here’s a quick meal I whipped up for the family tonight. Time is of the essence, this meal took less than an hour from start to finish. Grandma need time to wind down before bed so    dinner needs to be quick and easy so I can catch up on my shows. Yes, grandma loves her shows chile!

Ingredients:

Rib Eye Steak (3 for my family)

1lb Fresh Green Beans

Elbow Macaroni Noodles

1lb Extra Sharp Cheddar Cheese

1lb Mozzarella Cheese

1lb Monterey Jack Cheese

1/2 cup milk

Seasonings:

Black Pepper

Onion Powder

Lawry’s Seasoning Salt

Salt

Pepper

Fresh Green Beans

Fresh green beans are more work but definitely worth the effort. Anything worth having is worth working for! Yes, maybe I got too deep on green beans, but that’s how passionate I am about them 😂

Prepare green beans by snapping the brown ends off and revealing the inner freshness of the vegetable. Place in sauvers, add water to the bottom of the pan and cook on low. The green beans take the longest to cook thus prepare and cook them first.

Macaroni & Cheese

Pre-heat oven for 400 degrees while beginning to boil the noodles. Fill pot halfway with water, dash of salt and oil to prevent noodles from sticking to each other. Once boiling, add 8 0z (half the box of noodles) until soft. Easy way to check, scoop a noodle with a spoon and sample for texture. Hey, I am not a fancy chef, I do things that work. 💁🏽 Don’t replace spoon back in water, because, well, that’s just nasty – unless you’re just feeding your family. They drink off your cups and always eat off you plate anyway. 😂

Strain noodles in colander then place into baking pan. Quickly add cheeses as noodles will be hot and will begin melting the cheese. Spread evenly in the pan and place in oven until ooooey gooey approximately 10 minutes.

Rib Eye Steak

Steak is best prepared when it is room temperature. If a steak is freezing cole, it won’t cook as evenly and it doesn’t absorb the seasonings as easily. Tenderize the meat Season the rib eye steak with lawless, pepper and onion powder by sprinkling the seasonings evenly on both sides. Add oil to the skillet and cook on medium high for 5 minutes on each side until dark brown crust begins to form on bottom, cook 7 minutes for medium well.

Now, place on a fancy plate and take a picture for the gram. Instagram stunting!

5 Airplane Etiquette Tips to Save your Life!

5 Airplane Etiquette Tips to Save your Life

With my recent travel, I have noticed people don’t neccessarily know simple airplane etiquette that can save their lives! We already have to be in this cram spaced, with hundreds of people we don’t know for hours on end.

With that being said, there’s just standard airplane etiquette that I assumed people just knew. Well, you know what they say about assumptions…

#1 Sanitation Etiquette: If you’re sick, keep it to yourself!

giphy.gif

Honestly, truly, (in my fur) you sneezing, coughing and carrying on right next to me may lend you an evil eye or extra elbow nudge. The reality is, you knew you were sick before you got your narrow tail on the plane.

Granted, no one can foresee when they will be sick but you didn’t just realize you were sick while boarding this plane. So, then why wouldn’t you plan accordingly?

    • Bring tissue to cover your mouth when you sneeze.
    • Bring hand sanitizer to use after said sneeze or cough.
    • Bring cough drops to curb that death cough that seems to cause you to practically expel your lung. Take an immune system builder.

These young whipper snappers have new products to take to help aid in the prevention of getting sick such as airborne. I will have to admit; I’ve tried it for my last trip and did NOT get sick! So, definitely worth a shot (Insert hyperlink for amazon)

Old school mama remedies work just as well. Nothing like some good ole’ fish oil tablets or acidophilus still works wonders. #TrustyDusty

#2 Seat Etiquette:

Window Seat Sitter: If you like sitting by the window, please get all your stuff before you sit down.

  • Nothing is worst as an aisle sitter, than getting up to let the window sitter and middle sitter sit down just for the window sitter to want to get up tp get their iPad 15 minutes later.
  • Now, you knew you wanted you iPad during the flight, why didn’t you get it out before you sat down? I’ll wait.200-1.gif

Middle Seat Sitter: You are the one to bring the row together or apart. Please stay in your lane aka your seat.

  • No, don’t lean closer towards my side because we are not cool.
  • No, don’t try to use the left armrest – that’s not yours. Everyone gets one armrest. Not 2 because you’re in the middle. One. You know the rules, don’t ever try to play me.

Aisle Seat Sitter: Let’s not forget about the forgotten aisle seater.

  • You most likely chose that seat because you like having extra room. Well, guess what, that comes with other responsibilities.
  • You are the person that’s going have to get up for every restroom break, overhead bin rummage and stretch needed.
  • Don’t get mad and roll your eyes when people need to get up. You choose this life, it didn’t choose you. Get up, move to the left and let a playa go tinkle. Hey, I am not bias in this rant. 💁🏽

#3 Electronics Etiquette:

This is an iPhone not a wePhone. This is an iPad not a wePad. This is mine.Screen Shot 2016-12-28 at 8.24.01 PM.png

    • I’m scrolling through my social media pages.
    • I’m playing my games on my phone.
    • I’m listening to my music.
    • I’m writing my blog posts on my iPad.
    • Mine. Mine. Mine.

I don’t need you sneaking with your peripherals looking at my phone. What did your teacher always say? Keep your eyes on your own paper 📝

#4 Sleep Etiquette:

We board the plane and exchange small conversation about our travels, why we are traveling, who we are visiting, how long we will be there. Cool. I love talking to people and find their stories to be quite interesting! Yet, I have a distinguished ability to read individuals verbal and nonverbal language.

How to know when to shut up:200-3.gif

  • If you’re engaged in an interesting conversation as passenger’s board, there’s signs to indicate if that conversation will continue or not.
  • If the flight attendant gains everyone’s attention for the safety presentation and you see the other party put on their headphones, the conversation is over.
  • If the other party speaks about being tired and ready to take off (so they can sleep), the conversation is over.
  • If the other party begins to wrap up in their sweater, travel blanket or coat, the conversation is over.
  • If they lay their heads back on the seat or on the window, the conversation is over.
  • Do not, I repeat, do not tap on the other party to ask a question while their eyes are closed. Unless you’re telling me the plane is on fire, don’t wake me up. Even if I’m fake sleep because I just want to relax, don’t try to wake me up.

I legit had someone wake me up to ask me if I wanted gum for takeoff 👀

Just let me sleep, so I can be great. When I’m rested, I will kick the bobos with you the whole flight but if not, I will want to kick you from keeping me from getting my sleep 😩 Read the signs – they’re quite clear.

#5 Conversation Etiquette:

It’s a 10pm flight, the lights are dim but yet and still you feel your conversation with your friend, who is sitting right next to you, should sound like their in a different state?!?

200w.gif
With the lack of light and conversation taking place on the flight, do you think anyone wants to hear your loud bantering? Absolutely not!

Be easy: you’re doing what they call, the most! Understand your surroundings and be mindful of those who are trying to take a nap, keep their baby sleep (because who wants to hear a crying baby on a flight) or simply not trying to hear your cacklin’!

If you follow this simple advice, you are bound to avoid getting elbowed, side eyed or even worse, cursed out. Save your life, take my advice.

What is your advice on airplane etiquette?

Stuffed Bell Peppers in 5 Steps

Stuffed Bell Peppers Recipe

When you want to be fake fancy while serving a real family, this is a quick and easy go to! The reality is, who has time to live in the kitchen when there’s a list of other things to tackle such as drinking wine and catching up on your shows? Not I said the cat, not I. Look, don’t judge me.

Ingredients:

4 Green Peppers

1lb Ground Turkey or Ground Beef

1/2 cup of brown rice (Get that minute rice if you have to, shoot!)

1/2 cup water

1 Medium Red Onion

1 Garlic Clove

1 teaspooon Lawry’s Seasoning Salt

1 teaspoon black pepper

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 can of tomato sauce

Only 5 Steps, then hit play on your DVR!

  1. The rice will always take the longest! Add rice and water into pot until boiling point. Then, reduce heat and simmer for about 20 minutes. Preheat oven to 375 to get it percolating. (It’s time for the perculator, it’s time for the perculator. Dewwwww Dewwwww! Ok, ok, ok I am back!)
  2. Ground turkey is tricky to cook, if you don’t know what you’re doing. I’m not going to leave you hangin’ playa! Chop onions, garlic clove and season ground turkey with black pepper, onion powder and Lawrys at the very beginning! Ground turkey has to absorb that flavor or it will be bland. If you’re using ground beef, feel free to season throughout the browingine process. Stir constantly who mincing the meat.
  3. While the rice and meat cooking, you can prepare your green peppers. You can either chop the green peppers in half through the stem or cut the top off. It is all a matter of preference. I prefer them cut horizontally as they seem to cook evenly and are easier to season. Drizzle peppers with olive oil, salt and pepper to ensure they have flavor, too. Place on glass or non stick dish with opening face up.
  4. Mix rice, ground meat, tomato sauce and fill the green peppers with the mixture. Cover them with aluminum foil and place in oven for 25 minutes. add cheese for the last 5 minutes for the finishing touches.
  5. Serve on swanking table setting with garnish of your choice. Oh, you fancy huh?!

Want to be fancy? Use long sweet peppers to swank up your next dinner party!

Want to be healthier? Hold the cheese!

Trap Transalations

screen-shot-2017-01-03-at-8-18-52-pmIf you know me, you know I love all music. From one of my first purchased albums being  Alanis Morissette Jagged Little Pill to, ironically, my next favorite album being Jagged Edge, Jagged Little Pill. Jagged Edge is my favorite group of ALL TIME! Point blank period. Owned all their albums and still listen to them to this day! “Can’t take another heartbreak…Why’d you do the things you did, knowing that I loved you so babyyy!”“Can’t take another heartbreak…Why’d you do the things you did, knowing that I loved you so babyyy!” I digress. I know, I know the sidetracking in me never left. I love to paint a story, I can’t help it 😂

Now, that’s the r&b/pop side of me who you will catch listening to Trey Songz on repeat, my favorite male artist (Have y’all listen to his covers? His mixtape are equivocal to his albums! Yuuuup), being a Belieber and of course sipping on my Lemonade with Yonce. The other side of me, loves trappin’ out the bando.  Yes, I mean Future, Torey Lanez,  2 Chainz and artist alike. 👀

Are you judging me?

Like one of my mentors in my head, Shonda Rhimes, THE SHONDA RHIMES says in her book, Year of Yes: How to Dance It Out, Stand In the Sun and Be Your Own Person, you will not come up on my page judging me.

There is something about working tay_tay_fall_down.gif
out hearing the rap music blare in your ear motivating you to get snatched while you find your “tempo like I’m DJ mustard whew!”
or motivating you to just get it done -whatever “it” is. No excuses. No complaints. Just trapping out the bando!

Besides random mumbling of disoriented lyrics with lack of substance that some rap songs have, sometimes all you need is a good beat. Like people kill me thinking everything has to be deep! Not all music is deep. Some music is specifically made for you to wipe off your head, shoulders, knees, toes because you ON! B-O-O-S-I-E B-A-D – ok, sorry I just mentally got turned up. I’m back, I’m back.! My point is there’s good music with clear meaning, depth and strong messaging, dance music with fun catchy lyrics to make you pop lock and drop it and some music that falls in between.

In this edition of Trappin Translations, we will visit the contributions of the orginator of one of my favorite motivational songs in the fine art of rap. Big Sean (Boooooiii!) is the artist whom created  “Bounce Back.” The lyrics read,

Last night took an L, but tonight I bounce back
Wake up every morning, by the night, I count stacks

Trap Transalation:

Let’s talk about this, last night he took an L also known as a loss but by the end of the night he was able to bounce back. He was able to recuperate what he had loss rather it be his focus, his ability to achieve a goal or a certain amount of funds.  Despite the situation that could have defeated him, discouraged him from pushing forward to prosper in his day, he was able to persevere by the end of that very same day. Talking about motivation?!?

Rather wanting to start your own business, climbing the corporate ladder, you should want to have this same mindset that one day can change anything!

Any day that you don’t, as Big Sean says in this song, wake up in “beast modeeee”, or not dedicated to your craft or showcasing your talents is a day that you can miss out on that opportunity! You never know who is watching you or whom you may encounter that day. It could be a influential customer who unexpectedly promotes your business or senior management who notices the astounding work your have been doing on a project. You just never know!

What is one of your favorite rap/trap songs? If you would like for me to review a certain song, drop your suggestions below!

New Year’s Eve Traditions

New Year’s Eve Traditions

The good ole country girl in me knows there are certain traditions that you just have to uphold when it comes to New Years Eve or your whole year will be bamboozled, hoodwinked, ran a muck, led astray!

How you start the new year, is how you end it!

You can not, I repeat, cannot go into the new year with a dirty house. Of course, your house should be clean all year but this is a special kind of cleaning, like the cleaning your mom made you do when on punishment. I mean, scrubbing base boards, wiping down walls, dusting, washing and folding all clothes in the house. Like good ole old school cleaning. Yes, today, I will be the Black Cinderella! Clean your house, clean your old habits and clean out the old to welcome the new!.

New Year’s Eve Meal

Now once again, y’all know I am a southern belle. M.I. crooked letter crooked letter I hump back hump back I, to be specific. So, of course one of the dishes to eat on New Year’s Eve will be good and country.giphy.gif

Black eyed peas are know to bring good luck into your new year! They should be partnered with green vegetables as they are supposed to reflect the welcoming of money into your new year. I don’t know about you, but I am def trying to be cashed out. Fish are lucky  for multiple reasons such as swimming forward and progressing in life!

Our whole meal tonight will be black eyed peas, cabbage, corn bread and fried catfish with my favorite Frank’s Red Hot, Hot Sauce. The sauce doesn’t resemble anything for the new year besides good flavor in ya’ ear or should I say mouth. Tasty! Now, my aunt just called and told us that lobster tails are on sale 👀 We may have to slide those on the plate, too. I mean, why not? 😏

Midnight Kiss

I believe in spending New Year’s Eve with those you love the most whether they are family and/or friends. This year, we are keeping it simple with my husband, son and parents. At the stroke of midnight, I will be sharing a kiss with my bunny aka Bay and my little hunny. Excited to bring in the new year with those I love the most!

Tomorrow, I will sit down and clearly finalize all of my goals for 2017. What doesn’t get measured doesn’t get done!

Christmas Dinner: Sweet potatoes, mac & cheese with collard greens, these are a few of my favorite things!

What better way to celebrate the holidays than being with family, friends and of course having your favorite drink? 😏  I mean, what is a party without a pequito le turn up? Yes, that is a mixture of Spanish and French. I am trilingual. You mad or nah?

Hannnn. This year we hosted Christmas at our house with my side of the family. Traditionally, we spend Christmas Eve at my in laws baking cookies for Santa with the chil’ren, playing our favorite card games while eating the best seafood boil ever and sipping on our favorite dranky drank. We spent the night there to be awaken early in the am by the same said chil’ren who want to open up their Christmas gifts. Works out perfectly because once they are done opening gifts, we head home take a tiny nap and get prepared for the night time festivities.

Christmas day my parents and siblings come over to exchange gifts and partake in family fun! This is our second year in our home and I really wanted to get extra fancy with a formal table setting for everyone breaking bread together.

You know, put some stank on it! I will have something for everyone – my mom doesn’t drink, my dad loves a good vodka or tequila, my husband only drinks dark liquor and my youngest brother drinks ummm whatever (when you’re young, you can do that.) Unfortunately, my oldest brother and sister in law decided to move across the world to the east coast right before having my nephew! 😞 Thus, they weren’t be able to join us this year. Thankfully with technology we were able to FaceTime them to make them feel included in the festivities.

Here is the table setting for Christmas dinner. How did you make your holidays extra special?

Couple’s Trip to New Orleans: Baecation Recap

Baecation was exactly what we needed. Time away, just the two of us with plenty of libations to consume and food to enjoy! The city of New Orleans has this whimsical appeal to it with energy that is indescribable. Southern hospitality is an understatement there! From the time we landed, each individual we encountered, from our Uber drivers, waiters and  random people we met throughout our stay – were determined to ensure we were enjoying our time there! To say we enjoyed ourselves, is an understatement!

We stayed at the luxurious Loews hotel located on Poydras which was perfect location nestled into the downtown area but walking distance from Bourbon street. While we debated staying near Bourbon Street or downtown NOLA, we quickly decided that getting sleep without the interruption of thy turn up taking place outside was more important than being by the action. #SleepOverTurnUp

Our hotel was right across the street from a Harrah’s casino. Since it wasn’t Vegas, we automatically assumed that the casinos would be like local casinos back home near Chicago, where you pay to play and to drink. We were pleasantly surprised when playing black jack that drinks were complimentary like Vegas! Heyyyy now! My order of water quickly changed to a margarita on the rocks.

getimage-ashxinterior_635620000229064140

We really wanted to see the lay of the land, learn about the history and the locals since it was our first time visiting. But, first, we had to eat! Our location was literally 2 blocks from the famous New Orleans Riverwalk with beautiful scenic views, shopping and dining options.

IMG_9424.jpg

Our first meal of the trip was on the river at Crazy Lobster while trying their infamous Voodoo Juice. Yes, I was scared of the name but LOVED the taste of the rum punch concoction. We loved it so much, we took one for the road to explore the rest of the city!

Yes, y’all, you can drink while walking down the street in New Orleans! Come all the way throughhhh!

Might I add, I also found a Groupon for $30 for $60 worth of food. Ballllllin! Y’all know I love a good deal!

img_9430unnamed-9unnamed-8

The first night, visited the fun shops, bars and even had dinner on Bourbon street ago Oceanas. Friends of ours recommended their surf and turf in which my husband ordered while I tried the “Taste of New Orleans” that provided NOLA’s infamous dishes. fullsizerenderSidebar: Naturalistas, if you’re thinking of wearing your natural hair straightened in NOLA, don’t LOL Here is a before and after humidity shot of my hair. When in doubt, bun it out. I didn’t bring any product for a bun thus had to go for the easy bun look.  Shout out to the local beauty supply store for having my favorite edge control available to create a slick bun later on in the trip!

With a high of 75 on day 2, we were excited to try an outdoor activity! We found a Groupon for Cajun Critters in Westwego which was about a 10 minute Uber ride from our hotel and  free ride at that since my husband had never used Uber. We used code fhdeszs2ue for $10 0ff our first ride! Our tour guide had a wealth of knowledge as being an alligator hunter with over 20 years of experience. It was refreshing being one with nature and seeing the alligators up close and personal.

img_9446screen-shot-2016-12-21-at-1-12-42-pmimg_9449img_9477

Of course we had to try the beignets, french doughnuts, from Cafe Du Monde – The Original French Market Coffee Stand Since 1862. They were literally everything they were hyped up to be! We loved them so much that we went again on our last day. 👀 Sweet, hot and delicious! They are squared donuts served warmed. Pair it with their signature coffee au lait!

img_9463img_9561

My favorite restaurant from the trip, hands down was Drago’s. They are said to be the originator of the charbroiled oysters that did NOT disappoint. When ordering, we weren’t quite sure if we would absolutely love the oysters and thus opted for ordering a half a dozen versus a full dozen. Our waitress advised that everyone loves the dish and assured we would want to double up; she was right! I cold have eaten them as my entree and been entirely satisfied. You know it’s good when you start trying to figure out how you can make it at home! Since we had the dozen when it was all said and done, we decided to split the Mixed Grill Seafood Platter – which we loved just as much! Not to mention, the drinks were great with a strong delightful kick.

I live for a great brunch. So, it was legit critical for me to find a great breakfast spot.Thankfully our Uber driver recommended Ruby Slipper Cafe. I am a sucker for a deal and reviews and thus always research ahead of time. After pursuing the menu, I was pleasantly surprised with the selection and to find a coupon for a free side by simply signing up for their rewards program. Easy button! Signed up in last than 2 minutes and got our beef hash side for the free!

My husband always jokes about how decisive I am when it comes to ordering, I will stare at the menu, ask for the waiters recommendation and still ponder between my top 2 items! I was considering between two different egg benedicts, but with their “The Peacemaker” option, I was able to get one of both! Hubby ordered the banana foster french toast.

img_9482img_9484

Let’s also pay homage to this super sized mimosa! Come throughhhh!

img_9479

The New Orleans Riverwalk had a plethora of shopping and our favorite was a boutique winery shop with wine tasting and bottles for purchase. For the free 99, you were able to sample the frozen wine selection. For $12, we received a souvenir wine glass and were able to sample 5 generous pours of wines from local vendors in New Orleans to international wines from Italy. In addition, they had frozen wines in different flavors such as Peach Passion Pinot Noir, Zinfandel Mango Nola Hurricane Cabernet to name a few. Not to mention, the service was impeccable with a great hostess and ambiance as the NOLA music played in the background.

If you haven’t noticed by now, we ate [and drank🍹] pretty much everything on this trip! #RealLifeGoals Dinner this particular night was at Royal House. Our server had been with the company for 8 years, knew the menu like the back of her hand and recommended the best dishes for us to enjoy. She was lively, energetic and recommendations of the crab stuffed mushrooms, fried oyster alfredo pasta and butter pasta dish with Clams, Mussels and Scallops were on point!

Baecation to New Orleans!🍹

Y’all, I.Am. On. Count.Down! Like rets ta go! This week, the hubby and I are taking a #Baecation to New Orleans! Can we talk about how happy I am?

Things that make me happy:

  1. Spending time with Bay
  2. Food (Close tie for #1!)
  3. New experiences
  4. Reasons to dress up (#ProfessionalDresserUpper)

Let’s also talk about how all of these things will be achieved on this trip:

✔️Quality time with Bay

✔️Indulging in delectable dishes

✔️Exploring a new city while

✔️Engaging in new experiences!

✔️Slaying 💁🏽

I absolutely love to travel! Maybe it’s my background? 🤔  My dad was in the Navy which led to us living all across the United States from as far as Mississippi, to Virginia and even overseas in Italy. I am no stranger to a long car ride or hopping on a plane.

Not to mention, while growing up, my parents were the king and queen of road trips! We would frequently visit my family down south traveling from our home in Chicago to Mississippi, Tennessee, St. Louis or Atlanta to name a few.  When it came to preparing for a road trip, my mom DID. NOT.PLAY. Point blank period. Talking about suited and booted? Babbbby! She would have capri suns, choice of ham, turkey or salami sandwiches accompanied by fried chicken in aluminum foil and snacks for our trip. We would want for nothing. She would even have the wet ones to wipe your hands, pillows to sleep on and blankets just for us to be knocked out under.  Until this day, she is known for this. We just visited family in St. Louis this fall and my cousin who rode with us specifically was looking forward to the snacks and accommodations that come with traveling with my mom. Rest assure, my cousin wasn’t disappointed! Now, y’all already know I get sidetracked. I digress.

200

Nonetheless, I am beyond excited to take this Baecation to Nawlins (New Orleans!) As much as I have traveled down south, I have never been there! Neither one of us have been. I heard the turn up there is mad real but let’s be clear, I am really excited about the food. From creole dishes with my favorite seafood entrees to trying the world famous beignets, I am ready to see what’s the hype is about! Where are you favorite places to go or things to do in New Orleans? Comment below! Look out for my recap when I get back!

TURN DOWN FOR WHAT? Your reputation! 5 Things NOT to do at your Company’s Holiday Party

TURN DOWN FOR WHAT? Your reputation
5 Things NOT to do at your Company Holiday Party

Company parties can be a great chance to get to know your coworkers outside of work, seeing everyone dressed to the nine and really just to have a fun night! However, keep these things in mind or you may be the talk of the night but not for positive reasons…

#5 NO EXTRA SHORT OR TIGHT CLOTHES: Yes, it’s a holiday party where you want to show up and show out but be smart, like come on, you know better. In high school, we had set rules for proper attire. If you put your hands to your side and your clothes were shorter than that, then it was too short! Apply that same rule to the company party and you will be good in the hood. This is not the club this is a company party. Sure, be the Beyoncé of your company. Slay! But, be Beyoncé in Halo not Beyoncé in Drunk in Love! Just. Don’t. Do. It

#4 NO TWERKING: As soon as you feel your back begin to arch and hands drop to the top of your thighs, STOP. You have gone too far. Straighten your back, get you a glass of water and sat it on down, not sit, sat. Period. Just. Don’t. Do. It.

#3 NO SHOTS: The purpose of a shot is to enhance the progression of your level of inebriation (aka get tipsy quicker.) WHY would you need to do this at a holiday party, with coworkers, your manager and the CEO of your entire company there? Why? I’ll wait… Just. Don’t. Do. It.

#2 NO GETTING DRUNK. #3 leads us into this. I mean that’s pretty simple and straight to the point. What else do I really need to add to that? Have a drink or two, socialize but keep it cute and classy – not wasted and nasty. If you get drunk, you played yourself. Just. Don’t. Do. It.congratulations dj khaled you played yourself

#1 DON’T FORGET TO LEVERAGE THE OPPORTUNITY: Whether you are a looking to climb the corporate ladder or leveraging you current role to fund your entrepreneurial ventures, keep in mind that you are in a room full of connections. You never know who is watching you, you are still in a professional setting! The manager for a future role you’re interested in pursuing may remember you from pop lock and dropping it on the dance floor. Or the room could be filled with future clients or potential customers for your own business venture, you just never know. Work the room, introduce yourself and let people know who you are! If you don’t take charge of your destiny, who will?  Just. Do. It.
